Helping Moldova’s most vulnerable families reach self-sufficiency

At The Moldova Project, we create long-term impact by addressing the root causes of poverty, neglect, and social exclusion. Our work empowers vulnerable children and families to build safer, healthier, and more independent lives — while also strengthening the communities they live in.
We support families across five core areas:
We also support broader social transformation through:
Our Approach
Our approach is holistic, adaptive, and people-centered. We collaborate with national and local partners — from psychologists and teachers to mayors and international donors — to build a web of support around every family and community we reach.
Each family receives a customized support plan developed through close assessment and regular follow-up from our Mobile Team. We ensure that families are not only helped — but guided, supported, and encouraged — until they are able to thrive independently.
Our work stands out through:
They “graduate” from our programs only when they are stable, confident, and able to thrive independently. At every level — household, village, or system — we aim to restore dignity, build resilience, and unlock potential.

Our Impact in 2024
Since 2008, The Moldova Project has supported thousands of children and families in some of Moldova’s most underserved rural communities. Through consistent, personalized interventions, we help reduce child neglect, strengthen families, and build real pathways out of poverty.
Our impact goes beyond numbers. It lives in the children who feel safe for the first time, the parents who rediscover their strength, and the communities that begin to believe in their own future.
We measure success not just in statistics, but in well-being, confidence, and lasting change. Because when families thrive, entire communities are transformed — and every child has a real chance to grow up safe, healthy, and full of hope.
Our Beneficiaries

Rural Communities
The families we support live in rural communities across Moldova and often face multiple, interconnected challenges. Most are single-parent households raising three or more children and have limited access to essential services and opportunities.
Challenging Conditions
Many of them struggle with barriers such as limited job opportunities, gaps in education, poor access to healthcare, and social isolation. In some cases, these are compounded by emotional trauma, discrimination, housing insecurity, or the long-term effects of poverty. These conditions don’t arise from individual failure — they are the result of systemic neglect and a chronic lack of investment in rural areas.

Forging Change
Yet despite these obstacles, what defines the families we work with is not their hardship, but their strength and potential. They show remarkable resilience and a deep desire to create a safer and better future for their children. At The Moldova Project, we don’t impose change — we partner with families who are willing to walk this path, offering support, tools, and trust every step of the way.
