Subsistence Support Program

For families living in poverty, meeting even the most basic daily needs can feel like a constant uphill battle. In rural Moldova, where employment opportunities are limited and state assistance often falls short, parents are forced to make impossible choices — between food and medicine, hygiene and heat, education and electricity.

Our Subsistence Support Program is designed to ease this burden by ensuring that vulnerable families have consistent access to the essentials needed for a safe, healthy, and dignified life.

We provide monthly assistance to vulnerable families — typically reaching around 150 households at a time. Support is tailored to each family’s specific needs and may include:

  • Food staples – including flour, grains, pasta, sugar, canned goods, oil etc
  • Personal hygiene items – such as soap, shampoo, feminine hygiene products, toothpaste, toilet paper etc
  • Household cleaning supplies – including laundry detergent, dish soap, and disinfectants
  • Vouchers – for groceries or hygiene products, offering flexibility and autonomy in meeting daily needs.

In winter or emergency situations, we also offer additional support such as firewood, clothing, shoes, basic furniture or other household items, helping families cope with seasonal hardship or urgent needs.

This support brings stability into the homes of our beneficiaries and peace of mind to parents, who are then able to redirect their limited income toward other vital expenses — like utilities, education, or healthcare.

By addressing basic material needs, we help create the foundation from which families can focus on healing, growth, and long-term change. Because dignity begins with not having to choose between survival and safety.
