Books should not be a privilege — they should be part of every child’s life, no matter how remote their village. Yet in many rural communities across Moldova, children grow up without access to books, libraries, or creative reading environments. Our Mobile Library was created to change that — by bringing books directly into the hands of children who need them most.
This initiative travels regularly to remote villages, where children are invited to borrow books, read them at home, and return them once finished, so that others can enjoy them too. In doing so, the Mobile Library becomes more than a distribution service — it creates a shared culture of reading in communities where books are scarce and stories are rarely celebrated.
But it doesn’t stop at lending.
Children are encouraged to talk about the books they’ve read, share impressions, and engage in discussions with our Mobile Team, who help guide their reading choices and curiosity. They’re supported in developing reading comprehension, imagination, and emotional literacy — in a way that is natural, personal, and fun.
The Mobile Library:
- Brings rotating collections of books to keep content fresh and interesting
- Supports book borrowing and return, fostering responsibility and community sharing
Organizes interactive activities: reading circles, storytelling, group discussions, and themed workshops - Encourages children to recommend books to one another, cultivating peer learning and connection
- Allows our team to identify children who might need additional emotional or educational support
This simple system of read – reflect – return not only builds literacy, but also trust, autonomy, and a sense of inclusion. For many children, it’s the first time they are given access to a book that is just for them — and the responsibility to pass it on.
Because reading isn’t just about learning new words. It’s about imagining new worlds — and knowing you have a place in them.
